Quilt Preparation
- Please provide only smoke-free and pet-hair-free tops,
batting, and backs.
- You may provide batting or purchase it from me at a
reasonable rate (see Pricing).
- Batting and Back should be 8 inches longer and 8 inches
wider than your top.
- Back should be square with any seams selvage-free and
pressed open.
- Top, batting, and back should be wrinkle-free. (If the
batting you provide is packaged, remove it from its package and steam
out the creases, then fold gently.)
- If either top or back is directional, please specify the
top edge with a note safety-pinned to its top edge.
- Top, batting, and back should be free of loose threads, on
both “right” side and “wrong”
side. (Threads trapped in the sandwich can show through after quilting,
and threads left on the outside may get sewn down and be harder to
remove later.)
- If the perimeter is pieced, consider stay stitching the
edge so it doesn’t become unsewn during handling or quilting.
- A “wavy” border may lead to puckers in
the quilting, especially with free-motion quilting. To avoid wavy borders,
precut your borders to the length or width of the center of the quilt,
then sew on, easing fullness. (When easing, put the side with the
excess fabric down—against the feed dogs—when
sewing. This will significantly help with easing.)
